NSFT Poulsson Prize 2022 to Prof Roland Seifert

As previously announced, Professor Roland Seifert at Institute of Pharmacology, Centre of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Hannover Medical School (MHH), was awarded the 2022 Poulsson Medal for his long-lasting achievements in the field of pharmacology. During the NSFT Winter meeting at Beitostølen on January 27th, Prof. Seifert presented his Poulsson lecture ‘Signaling via cCMP and cUMP‘ in front of an audience of approximately fifty attentive members of the NSFT. This was an excellent lecture that demonstrated very well why the award was well earned by Prof. Seifert.

Prof. Roland Seifert received the Poulsson medal from Mohammad N. Sharikabad, leader of the NSFT.

Professor Seifert has produced an extensive amount of scientific work, with focus on G-protein-mediated signal transduction. In later years, he initiated and further contributed to establishing cyclic CMP (cCMP) and cyclic UMP (cUMP) as possible second messengers. Professor Seifert has made significant efforts for the field of pharmacology. To mention a few, he has been editor for the journal Naunyn-Schmiedeberg’s Archives of Pharmacology, worked to highlight a mechanism-based nomenclature for medicines, which currently is being implemented internationally, written a new textbook in pharmacology, which so far is available in German and English, as well as a popular scientific book about medicines. In his work as editor, he unveiled and contributed to publicity about the problem with fabrication of scientific articles in so called “paper mills”. Further, Professor Seifert has supported Norwegian research in pharmacology by serving as opponent at PhD disputations and promote the role of Norwegian pharmacologists in international forums, e.g., in editorial work.
The board of the NSFT congratulates Professor Roland Seifert with the 2022 Poulsson Award.
